There are five rules of Shotokan Karatedo equally weighted. These rules are designed to work along your technical moves to seek deeper understanding of yourself and free yourself from things holding you back from life.
Usually the first recited rule:
Seek perfection of character.

One thing I’ve learnt over the years is that the right people on your team – your circle of friends and particularly your loved ones- can help you to be better versions of yourself.
Your respect for them allows you to listen to your shortcomings and their criticism is a valued part of character growth. Not that you change everything. But you can at least acknowledge it and hopefully work past these things that hold you back 😂
A student’s development is intertwined with their instructor’s (and peer’s) feedback.
I hope that the school is building role models who are respected: Criticism from those we respect, especially those who give regular positivity have more chance to met with reflection (not always immediately!).
Successful partnerships helping each other to develop.
This is your journey, but you’re definitely not on your own.
So let me help you
Seek perfection of character.
